Child Safety Standards

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Our commitment

Milau is built for adults to discover and join real-world group activities. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind on our platform. This page explains the standards we follow, the controls we put in place, and how to report concerns.

Minimum age

  • Milau is restricted to users 18 years and older. This is stated in our Terms of Service and is the age rating we publish on app stores.
  • Everyone must accept the Terms of Service, which require users to be 18 or older, before they can use Milau.
  • Accounts we believe to belong to minors are suspended as soon as we become aware of them. We rely on user reports, host review of join requests, and our own review of profiles and activities to identify suspected minors.
  • Hosts retain the right to refuse any join request and to require identification at the activity itself.

Prohibited content and behaviour

The following are strictly prohibited on Milau and result in immediate, permanent account termination, content removal, and where applicable, reporting to law enforcement:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including images, videos, drawings, text or links
  • Grooming, sexual solicitation, or any sexual communication with a minor
  • Sexual extortion ("sextortion") of a minor
  • Trafficking, exploitation, or facilitation of harm to a minor
  • Activities that present a real-world risk of child harm, regardless of how the activity is framed
  • Posing as a minor, or representing oneself in ways designed to attract minors

How we prevent and respond

  • User reporting: activity pages, group chats and the Help & safety screen in the Milau app have a "Report a concern" or "Report a problem" action, so anyone can flag content or behaviour that endangers a child. Reports can be sent anonymously.
  • Verified accounts: every account is tied to a verified phone number, Google account or email address. There are no anonymous accounts.
  • Profile controls: users choose who can see their profile (everyone, members only, or private). Group chats are limited to the host and people who joined that activity.
  • Host approval: hosts can review every join request before confirming it, and can refuse anyone.
  • Review of reports: every report is read by a member of our team. Reports involving suspected child safety violations are handled first and reviewed within 24 hours.
  • Removal and preservation: on confirmation of CSAE-related content or conduct, the account is suspended permanently and the content is removed. Evidence is preserved for law enforcement requests.
  • No way back: a suspended account stays suspended. Signing in again with the same phone number or Google account returns the suspended account, not a new one.

Cooperation with authorities

  • We report apparent CSAM to the relevant authorities, including the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau for matters arising in Nepal, and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where required by U.S. providers we rely on for infrastructure.
  • We respond to lawful requests from regional and national authorities and preserve information necessary to support investigations.
  • We comply with applicable laws in the jurisdictions where Milau operates, including Nepal's Electronic Transactions Act and the Children's Act, 2018.

How to report a child safety concern

In the app: open the activity or chat in question (or Profile → Help & safety) → tap the menu → Report a concern → choose Unsafe, and write "child safety" in the description so it is handled first.

By email: [email protected]

In an emergency: contact Nepal Police on 100 or the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau on +977-1-4412780.

Reports are reviewed by a member of our team. Where required by law or where a child is at risk, we will share information with law enforcement.
