What is Milau?

Milau (मिलौ, Nepali for "let's meet") shows you small, real activities near you, hosted by people like you. You don't need to know anyone. Pick something you like, join, and meet people there.

Type what you feel like, like "chill hike Saturday morning", and Milau finds real activities that fit. Every Thursday it also sends you one pick for the weekend, with a short reason why.

Every activity

Know exactly what you're joining.

Each activity has the time, the place on a map, the host and their reviews, the plan in their own words, and who's coming (how many, and the group mix). There are even a few conversation starters, so the first five minutes are easy.

  • Group chat with the host and everyone going.
  • Day-of mode: the weather, reminders, a "running late" button and a check-in when you arrive.
  • Photo Drop: one shared album, so everyone gets everyone's photos.
  • Updates from the host if anything changes, plus Add to calendar.

Your Milau score only goes up when you do things in real life: show up, host, meet someone new, try something different. It never goes down. Your Passport collects a stamp for every kind of activity you've done.

Verified accounts

Everyone signs in with a verified phone number or Google account. No throwaway profiles.

Reliability score

Profiles show how often someone actually shows up. People who keep skipping can't join for a while.

Host approval

Hosts can choose to review each request, so they decide who joins their activity.

Made with women in mind

A women-friendly badge for hosts with a good track record, women-only activities, and a heads-up if you'd be the first woman to join. Nobody's gender is ever shown individually.

Report anything, privately

Report an activity or a chat in a couple of taps. A person on our team reads it, usually the same day, and the host is never told who reported.

Your location stays yours

Milau never shows where you are. Map pins show only the area of an activity unless it's at a public place.

What is Milau, in one line?
A free app that shows you small, real activities near you in Nepal, so you can join one and meet new people there.
Is it a dating app?
No. Milau is for friendship and doing things together: hikes, chiya, games, coworking, volunteering. There's no swiping and no matching.
Is it really free?
Yes. Joining and hosting activities is free, and every activity on Milau is free to join. If a plan involves food or a ticket, you pay the café or venue directly, like you normally would.
Is Milau on iPhone?
Not yet. Milau is on Android through Google Play now, and the iPhone app is coming soon. Follow @app.milau to hear when it's out.
I'm shy. Will it be awkward?
Groups are small (4 to 20 people), there's a plan to focus on, and you can say hi in the group chat first. Most people come alone, so you won't be the only new face.
Where does Milau work?
Right now Milau is focused on the Kathmandu valley: Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Kirtipur and around. Anyone in Nepal can download it and host, and we'll grow city by city as people do. If nothing's on near you yet, host something, or set a watch to get a notification when something is posted.
What if the activity is full?
Join the waitlist. If someone leaves, the next person on the waitlist gets the spot and a notification.
Is there a paid version?
There will be an optional membership called Milau Plus with extras, like starting your own crews, more watches and unlimited Plan my weekend. It isn't on sale yet. Joining, hosting, chat, the map and safety features are free for everyone, always.
Who can host?
Anyone with a verified account. There's no application. You can post up to 3 activities a day, and weekly repeats don't count toward that.
Do I need approval to join?
Only if the host has turned it on. Most activities confirm your spot right away. With approval, your spot is held once the host says yes.
What happens if I can't make it?
Leave the activity in the app so someone else can take your spot. If you join and don't show up, your reliability score drops, and after 3 no-shows in 30 days you can't join anything for a week.
How old do I need to be?
18 or older. See our child safety standards.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile, then Settings, then Account, then Delete account. Or request it by email.
